Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said that Republic of Srpska (RS) Prime Minister Milorad Dodik is trying to break apart Bosnia-Herzegovina. Commenting on the situation in Bosnia, Mesic said that currently Bosniaks and Croats make up eight percent of the population in RS, and once made up 48 percent. "Dodik wants to break Bosnia apart" “Dodik wants to implement a referendum for separation in these circumstances, which we will not accept,” Mesic told reporters in Zadar. He said that Belgrade is leading dishonest policies towards Bosnia, and that it “supports the political option that wants to tear apart Bosnia-Herzegovina, because of good relations with Dodik, and welcomes war criminal Biljana Plavsic.” Mesic spoke on the arbitration agreement for solving the border dispute with Slovenia and said that Croatia needs to stay bordering Italy, while ensuring Slovenia's “free sailing” on Croatian seas. He repeated that it is most important for the border agreement to be confirmed on the basis of international law. Mesic said that Croatia would be left without 64 square kilometers of sea if it accepted “Slovenia touching the open sea,” and that would mean the loss of an important tie to Italy. He added that Croatia’s strategic goal is to become a member of the European Union as soon as possible.
