He confessed to journalist he would like to be a witness to crucial historic events, such as the proclamation of Kosovo's independence and Albania's integration into NATO in 2008.

"I hope that the coming year will bring new successes to us, and that we will have the opportunity to witness events that will mark the history of our nation, all the way from Kosovo's independence to Albania's first steps towards NATO," Topi said at an annual reception for media representatives, the national news agency ATA reported.

This is not the first time that Albania's top officials have voiced their support for the southern Serbian province's independence, previously leading to altercations between representatives of Belgrade and Tirana during several regional conferences.
