Serbian president congratulates Japan's new emperor

Vucic sent his best wishes for success in the responsible duty and Japan's further progress, his office announced on Thursday.
"I am confident that the coming Reiwa era will bring happiness, prosperity, peace and harmony to your beautiful country, the imperial family and the friendly people of Japan," said Vucic.
He also said that he was pleased to note that bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Japan is developing successfully, with a political dialogue characterized by "mutual respect, understanding and solidarity."
Vucic added that "this was particularly contributed to by last year's visit to Serbia of Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, giving a strong impetus to further enhance cooperation of the two countries in political, economic, cultural and other fields."
"We are particularly proud of the fact that Serbia and Japan have recently made an important joint decision to establish 1882, as the year of the first diplomatic correspondence between (Serbian) King Milan Obrenovic and Japanese Emperor Meiji, as the Year of Friendship between Serbia and Japan," Vucic said in his message.
The president also sent a letter to Japan's now former Emperor Akihito, thanking him for his contribution to the development of Serbian-Japanese relations, the Serbian president's office said in a statement.
