Slovakia's parliament speaker visiting Serbia

Brnabic stressed that the political cooperation between the two countries is at a very high level and, in parallel with that, our peoples have been tied by close friendly relations through history.

The prime minister pointed out that Serbia highly appreciates Slovakia's principled position on the non-recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo and Metohija and support to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

She expressed her gratitude for the ongoing and active support of Slovakia in the process of Serbia's accession to the European Union, and expressed the expectation that it will continue in the further course of the negotiation process.

Danko said that Slovakia strongly supports the continuation of the process of enlargement of the Union in the Western Balkans region, and above all, the European integration of Serbia, which it considers as the key country of the region and the strategic partner of Slovakia.

Danko emphasized that the European Union, regardless of the current internal problems, is primarily a family of countries, in which Slovakia would primarily want to see Serbia.

The officials agreed that a high level of political relations between the two countries does not accompany adequate progress in the development of bilateral economic cooperation, and that the key interest is to improve economic cooperation and increase joint investments.

Danko pointed to a very good approach to Serbia when it comes to the rights of the Slovak national minority, and pointed out that Serbia is leading in establishing the standards of preserving the language and culture of minorities in relation to many European countries.
