Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said this on Thursday while opening the conference "Years of Jubilee," dedicated to celebrating 25 years since the renewal of diplomatic relations with Israel.

The former Yugoslavia (SFRJ) broke off diplomatic ties with Israel in 1967, but Serbia - at this point, along with Montenegro, a member of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SRJ) - renewed them in 1992, soon after the breakup of the six-republic federal state.

Dacic today in Belgrade "pointed to the rich tradition of Serbian-Jewish friendship that withstood the greatest historical challenges that both nations have faced."

It is also an opportunity to emphasize a common orientation towards the future and further strengthening of relations and cooperation, mutual understanding and closeness, he pointed out, noting that Serbia highly appreciates Israel's principled stand not to recognize Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence, "which, without a doubt, positively reflects the quality and content of overall relations."
