Vucic: No regional country can match Serbia's military power
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that citizens will on Friday see "a Serbian Army different than the one they've seen before."Source: B92, Prva TV
Vucic was speaking on Thursday at the military airport in Batajnica - where preparations for tomorrow's military parade "Freedom 2017" are under way.
According to him, "if Serbian citizens think back to the air show in 2013, they will see that this today is different."
"Since the 1990s, we have not had this many MiG-29s. MiG-29s and MiG-21s can't be compared, these are two different classes, like when Barcelona plays against any of our domestic (football) clubs," said the president, and added:
"Now, we have also discussed buying more helicopters. We are strengthening our defensive power, the firepower of our army. When you safeguard your military neutrality and freedom of the country, then you have to be strong. A powerful army also means a satisfied soldier. I know that these people have gone through a difficult period. We lack rifles, machine guns - but you will see a modern soldier fully equipped with the best flak vests, one who has multiple pairs of boots."
Speaking for Prva TV, Vucic also said that if the Serbian Army were evaluated "six months ago and again today," it would now be "up some ten places on the list."
"No country in the region has the strength of Serbia, none has more than one MiG-29 - and we have ten. We measure ourselves against much more modern countries that are much richer," he added.
