"Historical importance of Belgrade-Baghdad cooperation"

Serbian First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic and Iraqi President Fuad Masum have pointed out friendly relations between the two countries, and their importance.

This is according to the Serbian government, which also said that Masum on Wednesday in Baghdad "highlighted the historical importance of Belgrade-Baghdad cooperation, which is developing without open issues and to mutual satisfaction."

He "expressed his gratitude for the support of the Republic of Serbia in the fight against terrorism, especially against ISIL, emphasizing the importance of developing parliamentary cooperation as an important factor in the development of the overall relations between the two countries" and "underlined the importance of economic cooperation which should be built on the excellent political relations that we have, and called on Serbian companies to take part in the reconstruction and development of the Republic of Iraq."

Dacic also met with Minister of Defense of Iraq Erfan al-Hiyali and underlined the importance of respecting territorial integrity of Serbia and Iraq and mutual support at the international level.

Dacic met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari with whom he agreed that economic ties between their countries, as well as cooperation in education, culture and development, needed to be developed.

Dacic highlighted the significance of the friendly ties between the two countries and the potential to enhance them further, Tanjug reported.
