Russia to follow Serbian elections "with full attention"

Chepurin said that stability in the development of bilateral relations is important to Russia, and that the campaign and the presidential elections in Serbia in 2017 will be followed closely.

According to a statement issued by the Serbian Presidency, in the letter, Putin also stressed that 2016 "confirmed the strategic character of the Russo-Serbian partnership," as political dialogue developed and agreements were signed that opened up "good possibilities to realize bilateral projects of mutual interest."

Putin also wished Nikolic and his family and friends health and success, "and to the brotherly Serbian people peace, well-being, and prosperity."

Nikolic said he was greatly thankful for the support Russia provides to Serbia and the Serb Republic, and once again expressed his deeply felt grief over the tragic plane crash on Sunday, when 92 passengers and crew, including members of the Russian Army's Aleksandrov Ensemble, lost their lives.

Nikolic and Chepurin also spoke about the joint projects realized by Serbian and Russian companies, the statement added.

Chepurin noted that Serbia and Russia over the past several years "established a system of great trust, and good relations."
