The head of the Roman Catholic Church and the Kosovo officials "spoke about the role of Kosovo in building peace in the Balkans and about the role of Mother Theresa in establishing peace in the world," the paper said.

After the meeting, Thaci took to Facebook where he wrote that Pope Francis "informed him about his plans to visit Kosovo and recognize the reality in the Balkans."

Mustafa's press service, meanwhile, said that the Kosovo prime minister "thanked Pope Francis for his support to Kosovo and its people," the daily writes.

The Vatican does not recognize the unilateral declaration of independence made by ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Serbia's southern province, in 2008.
