The two presidents also signed a joint statement aimed at strengthening their countries' cooperation in international organizations and deepening the traditional friendship.

Agreements on mutual assistance in criminal matters, transfers of convicted persons and extraditions were signed.

Also signed were agreements on cooperation between Serbia's autonomous province of Vojvodina and the administration of Kazakhstan's Almaty Region as well as on Serbia's participation in the International EXPO 2017 in Astana.

"Historic visit"

Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazabayev's first visit to Serbia is a historic one because it sends a sincere message of friendship between the two countries, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said on Wednesday, thanking Nazarbayev for the principled position of non-recognition of Kosovo and for opposing its UNESCO membership.

Kazakhstan has thus enabled Serbia to protect its cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija, Nikolic said, appealing to Serbia's friends for support on the matter in case Kosovo's UNESCO membership bid is renewed next year.

"There are growing security risks and religious extremism in Kosovo qne Metohija, with ethnic Albanians taking part in terrorist acts in crisis regions around the world," Nikolic warned.

He also said Serbia and Kazakhstan had major prospects for economic cooperation.
