Zakharova thus commented on a statement made earlier in the day by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on the occasion of the ratification of an agreement on cooperation with NATO.

Vucic said that Serbia needed NATO as an ally to protect Serbs in Kosovo, but is militarily neutral and wants good relations with both Russia and NATO.

"We note that Serbia is developing relations with NATO. We proceed from Belgrade, as has been repeatedly declared by Serbian officials, adhering to the policy of neutrality, which was confirmed by a decision of the Assembly of Serbia," said Zakharova.
