Temporary reception center in north shut down

A temporary refugee center in Kanjiza, near the border with Hungary in northern Serbia, was shut down on Friday, Tanjug reported.

The decision came as refugees from the Middle East no longer use this route on their way to Germany and Scandinavian countries.

The authorities believe that beds and blankets are more needed at other places along the new refugee route, the agency said.

Ivan Gerginov, assistant to the Commissioner for Refugees, told Tanjug that the center in Kanjiza was of the interim character without any facilities made of solid material, but only tents that can be used at other locations as well.

The majority of refugees are lately entering Serbia over the border with Macedonia and a much smaller number comes from Bulgaria.
