The crossing was closed for passenger and freight traffic "due to a great influx of migrants," Tanjug said.

The migrant crossing procedures will be implemented at the Horgos 2 checkpoint, while at the Horgos 1 checkpoint the priority will be given to the passenger and commodity flows, according to the agency.

Stefanovic told reporters on the Hungarian side of the border that the refugee crisis still poses a challenge, but that the economic cooperation and transit of citizens have greater importance.

Pinter said that emergency situations call for emergency solutions, adding that the pressure which is placed on the two countries because of migrants has triggered an emergency situation in which the two countries have managed to find a joint solution.
