Hungary is building such a fence on Serbia's northern border. However, Labor Minister Aleksandar Vulin told the daily this suggestion is not new, and added: "A wall has not protected so far neither Hungry, nor Bulgaria, just as controlling the sea toward Greece and Italy has not done that."
Head of the parliamentary group of the ruling SNS party Zoran Babic said that "Serbia wants a Europe without borders," and that the government's policy is "to build bridges and links, not walls."
Head of the opposition DS party group Borislav Stefanovic thinks the SNP initiative is motivated by "dangerous right-wing ideas," and that the migrant problem is "much more complex than building fences."
The daily also quoted the director of the Group 484 NGO, Vladimir Petronijevic, who said that "walls will never stop migrants," and also warned the idea would be "contentious from the point of view of international law."
