Draskovic wants Serbia to "immediately join NATO"

"NATO is a choice and a guarantee of the western road, and the EU is a longish journey with many tasks and checks. Serbia, its professional army above all, practically meets them already," Draskovic argued in his article ran under the headline, "To NATO, Immediately!"

According to him "NATO is a guarantor of political certainty, without which there is no security for investors, both foreign and domestic."

"The only real obstacle is the constitutional preamble, the command that Kosovo is, even today, an autonomous province under the sovereignty of Serbia, although everyone in Serbia, including these commanders, know that it is only propaganda fog, a norm outside of reality, done only with the intention of being a barricade for Serbia's movement towards NATO and the European Union," said Draskovic.

He believes that the position held today by a vast majority of Serbian citizens that NATO is a criminal alliance because of the bombing of Serbia in 1999, and one that also took away Kosovo, is "the consequence of 15 years of state, church and media demonization, planned even before NATO bombs showered Serbia."

According to Draskovic, however, only Serbia's membership in that organization "will mark the end of the wandering, and begin the cleansing of the state of everything that in the civilized world must be taken to the junk yard."

"Only then will Serbia cease to resemble that confused and 'neutral' Buridan's ass, crucified between two haystacks, between the West and the East, that cannot reach either. Then, and only then, will the Serbian train will depart for Brussels, and the European Godot towards Serbia," wrote Draskovic.

He also pointed out that the Balkans is "increasingly mentioned as being in the cross-hairs of the Islamic Caliphate fanatics, in the heart of which the media and political adventurers recruit new and young fighters."

The SPO leader, however, believes that "every fire of conflict, armed or political will be put out and addressed by NATO, because the Balkans is in its backyard."

"It is up to Serbia to choose one of these two. To join NATO, and, on an equal footing, at the table solve both regional and its own problems. Or for its interests to be decided upon without it. To be at the table, or on the menu," said Draskovic.

Draskovic also considers "Moscow's frequent warnings that the membership of Serbia in NATO would be interpreted as a hostile act towards Russia" to be "devoid of logic."

"If after all Serbia is a state which is a historic friend of Russia, which is often repeated both in the Kremlin and in Belgrade, Serbia will be such also after its accession to NATO. Finally, the passions caused by the Ukrainian war will calm down, while a global response to the tsunami of terrorism and fanaticism will require, and already does, an alliance between NATO and Russia" - concluded Draskovic.
