Today and tomorrow, she will hold talks with top Serbian officials.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will welcome Merkel in an official ceremony in front of the Palace of Serbia, and then hold a face-to-face meeting.

Afterwards, they will have dinner at the Bokeljka villa in Belgrade's Dedinje neighborhood, accompanied by their foreign policy advisors. Vucic "only invited ministers of foreign affairs and finance, and Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic" to the dinner, writes the Belgrade-based daily Blic.

At the villa, the paper added, "eight Serb folklore groups will welcome her and present, for five minutes, folklore clothing and dances from Serbia."

The same article said that on the prime minister's orders, "only food and drinks from Serbia will be served."

Merkel will stay in the Hyatt Hotel where she will on Thursday morning have a working breakfast with representatives of the NGO sector. Later, she will be received by President Tomislav Nikolic at the Palace of Serbia.

According to the daily, "three topics will dominate all the meetings: dialogue with Pristina, opening of chapters with the EU, and the economy."

"It has been learned from several informed sources that Merkel will praise (Serbia's) economic reforms, but will also be very interested in the state of human rights in Serbia," the article said.

Security will be raised to the highest level for the visit, with some 2,000 police officers deployed in the streets, "along with more than a hundred snipers along the route of movement of the German guest."

The police announced there would be changes to the traffic regime in the city today and tomorrow.
