"It's time to achieve compromise," the German chancellor has been quoted as saying during a joint news conference with Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa in Berlin.

The Kosovo dialogue round held on Monday ended without any agreement.

Merkel added that moving closer to the union depended on progress in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

"Only if here is progress, there will be also be progress in their moving closer to the European Union," she said.

Germany supports both Belgrade and Pristina and is very much interested in reaching a fair agreement for both sides, which requires compromises, Merkel was quoted as saying.

She also " told Mustafa that the continuation of dialogue and formation of a special court for crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army are the requests that Kosovo has to comply with."

She reiterated Berlin's stance that the asylum requests by citizens of Kosovo will by no means be approved in Germany, reads Pristina-based daily Koha Ditore.

Dacic: Dialogue has no alternative

Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic says Serbia's approach to the dialogue with Pristina will continue to be constructive despite the lack of agreement on Monday.
