He told the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti that the setting up of the community (ZSO) was "the focal point of the Serb political struggle in Kosovo and Metohija."

"We want the ZSO to have a capacity and to, in the political and every other sense, give Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija a possibility of deciding on their own affairs and governing them. We will fight and succeed to form the ZSO, which we wrote down as the number one article of the coalition agreement on which the provincial government currently rests."

He then said he expected "relations with Pristina to be normalized up to the level that will enable us to function, despite there being clear disagreements over the status and position of Serbs in the province."

"Our view, when it comes to the position of our southern province, will never change. We are prepared to protect our vital state and national interests in Kosovo and Metohija," said Djuric.
