This is what Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said during their meeting in Belgrade on Thursday.
Nikolić and Szijjarto said that Serbia and Hungary need to become infrastructurally connected, noting the need to reconstruct the railway line from Belgrade to Budapest and build new border crossings, the presidential press office said in a statement.
Serbia's wish is to become a full member of the European Union as soon as possible, and until that happens, we will strive to create a modern, orderly state according to European standards to ensure better living conditions for all our citizens, President Nikolić said.
Szijjarto said that Hungary strongly supports Serbia on its European path, and added that his country believes that the European Union should expedite the enlargement process.
For this reason, maintaining good relations among the countries of the region is something that Hungary sees as very important, he said.
Nikolić and Szijjarto once again noted the significance of the Hungarian national minority in Serbia as a very important link between the two countries, the statement said.
The Hungarian minister was also received on Thursday in Belgrade by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić.
