This was announced in the Serbian parliament on Thursday by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, who also said that four persons are still listed as missing.

The previous official death toll figure was 33, and speaking on Wednesday, Vučić suggested that it had not changed.

"We hope that this is the final number," the prime minister said, addressing MPs.

He noted that 26 natural deaths occurred in eight municipalities. Vučić also announced the names of the dead and the missing. Among the victims was a firefighter, he noted.

"It is very important to establish everyone's responsibility," Vučić said, adding that "the Emergency Situations Sector reacted in a timely manner."

Serbian MPs are today posing questions to the prime minister and members of his cabinet related to "the causes and consequences" of the unprecedented floods that hit Serbia earlier this month.

"Serbian leaders acted wisely and efficiently"

President Tomislav Nikolić expressed his gratitude to the Chinese people, stressing that Serbia highly appreciates the assistance in overcoming the floods.
