BRUSSELS EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton called on Belgrade and Pristina "to resolve all disputes in connection with the forthcoming local elections in Kosovo." Ashton said in a statement that “a lot of people have worked very hard to prepare these elections,” and commended Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci for having “the vision and the courage to reach the April agreement and implement it.” Ashton: Dacic and Thaci need to address remaining challenges “I call on them today to show the same vision and courage in order to ensure fair and inclusive elections,” she said on Thursday. “The EU will be following closely the conduct of the elections,” Ashton said, urging both leaders to address any remaining challenges on election day. “The November 3 elections are a key moment in Kosovo's future and are an important element in the implementation of the April Agreement and the process of normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia,” said Ashton. Aside from being part of the April agreement implementation, “this electoral process must also be a step forward in the consolidation of Kosovo's democracy,” Ashton said. The European foreign policy chief expressed her special thanks to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for their efforts to facilitate the organization of the elections.
