The Foreign Ministry of Kosovo requested withdrawal of the UN civilian mission (UNMIK) with explanation that its presence undermined the process of recognition of Kosovo’s independence, Pristina-based daily Tribuna reads on Thursday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Enver Hoxhaj said that UNMIK
had an important role in the process of building the institutions in
Kosovo, but the mission’s mandate was fulfilled.
Following implementation of the UN special envoy for
Kosovo Martti Ahtisaari’s plan, and after over 100 countries
recognized independence of Kosovo, which joined a number of the
international mechanisms, reached an agreement with Serbia and
opened talks with EU on the Stabilization and Association
Agreement, there is no reason for UNMIK to stay in Kosovo and for
the Security Council’s Resolution 1244 to remain operational and
functional, Hoxhaj said.
On the other hand, Serbia insists on respect for the
Resolution 1244 and on UNMIK’s bigger role.
