BELGRADE Security Services Control Committee President Jadranka Joksimovic does not believe the security situation would deteriorate if no deal was reached in talks. She pointed out that the Serbian security services were on standby and that they carefully monitored the situation on the ground. Security services on standby, committee head says “The fact is that there is a lot of internal quarreling among Kosovo Albanians and precisely this kind of internal political fights and dissatisfaction can be used as an argument for possible violence. I do not believe in that scenario but I would not say that it is impossible,” Joksimovic explained. She said that it was very important for the international community to accept that violence was not a valid argument in the negotiations and to ensure safety, which was its obligation in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244. “Our security services are carefully monitoring the situation on the ground, they are ready to react in some, I hope nonexistent, but bad scenario. The security services are on standby but I expect the negotiations to prevent conflicts and that the international community will in that sense insist that the argument of violence is not used,” Joksimovic stressed.
