NOVI SAD Serb Progressive Party (SNS) deputy leader Igor Mirovic has said that the ruling majority in Vojvodina has lost its credibility thanks to numerous affairs. He added that provincial elections were therefore necessary. Ruling party official: Elections necessary in Vojvodina Mirovic, who is also a president of the SNS Vojvodina Council, believes that the Democratic Party (DS) is obstructing the solving of key problems in Serbia by staging affairs and trying to threaten not only its biggest competitor, the SNS, but the entire state. “This is not just a political process and a clash between parties but a process against their own country because these affairs in effect prevent progress toward a better life for the people,” he told Tanjug. “After Tomislav Nikolic won last year's presidential election and SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic came out saying that changes needed to cover all segments of society, panic swept through certain interest groups and lobbies, said Mirovic, adding that the truth about major machinations was slowly coming out. He said these machinations and abuses were being discovered in banking and agriculture, adding that monopolies in these sectors "were carefully guarded for years, perhaps decades." “Changes after the elections allowed Serbia to recognize itself, to make some sort of balance as to what has not been destroyed yet and in which areas monopolies have not devastated everything they could ,” Mirovic said and added that a reaction of “those who were a part of the monopoly” was therefore so strong. He stressed that the new government led by the SNS did not intend to tolerate anyone who worked against interests of the state and citizens, adding that it was important to “break the resistance coming from those closed structures, monopolies, lobbies that had it great all these years”. Mirovic said that the SNS, as the dominant party, was committed to even more efficient work of the government so measures for improvement of the situation would be taken in all areas. He noted that citizens trusted the SNS the most and requested solutions from it and that the party therefore had a great responsibility. He believes that circumstances have changed significantly in Vojvodina since the last general election and that early provincial elections are therefore necessary. “Would have citizens voted for the DS, that leads the Vojvodina authorities, if they had known that the Vojvodina Development Bank was about to collapse and that hundreds of millions of dinars in the Capital Investments Fund had been embezzled,” the SNS official wondered. He pointed out that citizens had been “politically deceived” by an unrealistic image offered by the provincial officials last May, adding that the ruling majority in Vojvodina had in the meantime lost credibility “thanks to the truth that reached Vojvodina too”. “A confirmation of that will be the second round of additional provincial elections in Zrenjanin, Srbobran and Apatin and if the DS candidates do no win councilor mandates, this will mean that the opposition in the provincial assembly won the citizens’ trust and that we have to have elections in a reasonable amount of time, in six months to a year,” Mirovic stressed. He said that the last “so-called milk affair” was aimed at “making political room for those who tried to cause some sort of destabilization on the political scene with manipulations” but that it “has done completely the opposite, precisely because the changed circumstances”. “Citizens will realize that a political idea cannot be built with lies and political points cannot be won,” Mirovic concluded.
