SNS party leader and presidential candidate Tomislav Nikolic said on Thursday in Belgrade that the May 6 elections in Serbia should be annulled. The reason, Nikolic told reporters in an open-air news conference in front of the Serbian parliament, is widespread election theft. SNS leader: Ballots were replaced with forgeries He also stated that the Democratic Party (DS) was guilty of organizing the fraud, and that for this reason, the party should be banned from taking part in future elections. Nikolic will face DS leader Boris Tadic in the May 20 second round of the presidential election. The SNS president and his deputy Aleksandar Vucic today showed journalists a sack full of ballot papers that they said proved that the ruling Democratic Party had committed election fraud. The sack, said Nikolic, contained 3,000 original ballot papers that the citizens used to vote on May 6 - but which were after the polls closed "thrown into garbage dumpsters". These valid ballots were then replaced by forgeries, Nikolic asserted. He would not reveal where the ballot papers presented today were found, but noted that in any case, "they should today be in possession of the Election Commission (RIK), not here". He said that of some 3,000 ballots shown today, 2,800 were cast for opposition candidates, while only 70 for ruling parties. Nikolic said he was now leaving it to the commission, courts, prosecution and police to investigate his allegations, and noted that he expected Boris Tadic to provide his answers. Tadic earlier in the day addressed the controversy to dismiss the accusations as false. Nikolic further told reporters that he had information that the fake ballots were printed in Poland, and transported to Serbia via Hungary. They were then distributed to election councils' members representing the ruling coalition. "We caught them red-handed in election theft and we will show why we didn't win with a 15 percent margin - which is our approximate strength," he stated. Addressing a gathering of young SNS activists on Thursday, Nikolic also accused the authorities of adding about half a million names of dead or non-existent persons to the election roll, to then "vote on their behalf".
