Priština “should be more truthful” in dialogue

Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović said Sunday the international community should exert influence on Priština to be more open in the dialogue.

She explained that it would improve the quality of life of the people in Kosovo.

"The Belgrade-Priština dialogue under the auspices of the international community is a very good way to reach a solution. But I am convinced that Priština has not entered the dialogue openly, which is why it is important for the international community to exert influence on Priština to increase the degree of truthfulness," Đukić-Dejanović told Tanjug.

Stressing that Serbia would never recognize the independence of Kosovo, she assessed that the situation in the field required practical solutions and that issues of customs stamps, energy products, freedom of movement and education should be discussed as soon as possible.

The speaker believes that Serbia deserves to obtain the EU candidate status as well as the date for the beginning of negotiations.

She said that "Serbia has got closer to the EU incomparably more than the other way round," adding that the reason for this was that the EU's requests were too big.

Đukić-Dejanović announced that a group of U.S. congressmen would visit Belgrade, northern Kosovo, as well as Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia in early November.
