If Kosovo is a condition for continuation of EU integrations people should voice their opinion, Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic says. Nikolic said this ahead of a meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule. SNS leader: People should decide on EU integrations “If we get a straight answer from Stefan Fule that recognition of Kosovo’s independence is a condition for continuation of European integrations we will reveal that to our citizens immediately after we get out of the meeting. And only they will be authorized to publicly decide on Serbia’s further path,” he told daily Vecernje novosti. The SNS leader will meet with Fule and EU administration representatives in Brussels on Thursday. “It is going to be an open conversation. I will ask Fule whether the candidate status is jeopardized after (German Chancellor) Angela Merkel’s visit and what Europe expects from us in the first place. Especially since we have been getting conflicting statements from (Serbian President) Boris Tadic. It is obvious he has lost all control and he has no explanation not only for leading a non-institutional foreign policy but also for the fact that the policy has brought a catastrophic result,” Nikolic was quoted as saying. He explained that the meeting with Fule had been previously scheduled and that it had been initially envisaged to discuss Serbia’s EU candidacy. “We have been offering to have the same talk with those in power, but they arrogantly ignored our wish to find a national consensus. Since they don’t keep us informed about how far we got in the EU integration, what is going on and what exactly are Brussel’s requests, there is no other way than to ask Fule directly. Because remember that we gave up on a request to call early election so we would not hinder Serbia on its European pathway and that is why we now need to check what this is really about at the highest level,” Nikolic pointed out. Tomislav Nikolic (Beta, file) SNS officials requested meeting, Brussels says Fule will meet with Nikolic and SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels tomorrow and he expects to head their opinions about interior political development in Serbia and the country's EU integration, the EU enlaregment commissioner's office told Beta news agency on Wednesday. Fule's office also stressed that the SNS officials were coming at their own request. The meeting is a part of usual meetings that the enlargement commissioner has with opposition representatives from countries that have close relations with the EU. According to the sources from Brussels, Fule will not make any announcements after the meeting with Nikolic and Vucic and they will not hold a press conference either.
