Zubin Potok Mayor Slavisa Ristic has assessed that “last night’s brutal EULEX and KFOR’s operation” in the village of Zupce was aimed at intimidating the Serbs. He told Beta news agency that “nobody is denying that an investigation into a murder of a police officer is necessary”. Serb mayor says EULEX, KFOR aim to intimidate “We expect it to be real and to answer questions who sent those men on an insane operation to take over the Brnjak crossing on July 26,” Ristic pointed out. He said that the latest events in Zubin Potok – night operations, large number of troops, operations without results, were aimed at intimidating the people. Ristic denied EULEX Spokesman Nicholas Hawton’s claims that the local authorities had been informed about the operation, adding that they had carried it out of their accord, in a rough and brutal manner. The Zubin Potok mayor explained that he would lodge a protest with KFOR, EULEX and the international community over the events in Zubin Potok and that he would call on Belgrade to protect Serbs because things that were happening were aimed at intimidating the Serbs and making them move away in order to ethnically cleanse the area. According to him, the crisis staff will decide whether to return barricades in the village of Zupce. “Only one lane is open and KFOR troops are at the place where the barricade once was, so the question is who is blocking the road,” Ristic pointed out. “Times are difficult and every crisis staff’s decision will be aimed at protecting the people and not at putting them in danger,” he said. The Zubin Potok also stressed that he was not afraid of being arrested because he was not a criminal and that the Serbian people were not afraid because they had not done anything. “I am worried about the entire people because a coordinated operation is behind all this that has been happening for more than a month now in the north of the province,” he stressed. Strong EULEX and KFOR forces entered Zupce around 05:30 CET on Wednesday and searched local houses for persons responsible for the murder of Kosovo police special unit (ROSU) member. The policeman was killed when ROSU attempted to take over the Brnjak administrative crossing by force on July 25. KFOR troops at an administrative checkpoint (Tanjug, file)
