Head of the Pristina negotiating team Edita Tahiri told Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti daily that only technical issues would be discussed in the Kosovo talks. She rejected a possibility that any compromise on any issue that would exceed technical framework would be reached. Talks about north “out of question” “I think I made myself clear when I said that Kosovo accepted the dialogue in order to help solve technical issues. The issue of status is a closed chapter for Kosovo,” she was quoted as saying. “Kosovo is an independent state today, which has been recognized by, so to speak, the most powerful part of the world,” Tahiri stressed, adding that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had also confirmed legality of Kosovo’s independence and that Kosovo was a member of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). When asked whether the north of Kosovo would be discussed during the talks, she said that it was a “non-existing issue” for them. “The north does not exist as a topic. What does exist is the issue of Serbs living in the northern part of Kosovo, who, under Belgrade’s influence, hesitate to integrate in the Kosovo reality and institutions,” the head of the Pristina’s negotiating team pointed out. According to her, there are other Serbs from other parts of Kosovo, who are completely integrated in the Kosovo institutions today and “one of the deputy prime ministers is even a Serb”. Speaking about possible results of the dialogue, Tahiri said that she would like to expect “normalization of relations between the two countries and Serbia to stop interfering with Kosovo’s institutional life in the domain of the practical issues that we are discussing”. According to her, Serbia has not withdrawn completely since 1999 and “it is still setting up and creating obstacles”. “We talked about energy and telecommunications on Monday. Kosovo’s energy and telecommunications system cannot be normalized due to Serbia’s interference,” Tahiri stressed. Edita Tahiri
