DSS leader Vojislav Kostunica said that Serbia is “falling for a trap” by bringing the Kosovo question to the UN General Assembly. The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader and former prime minister said that Serbia could suffer a “great defeat,” before the UN General Assembly, especially after the recent negative opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legality of Kosovo’s independence proclamation. DSS: “Great defeat” possible before UN GA “Instead of holding tight to the Security Council, where we have the support of Russia for not being able to change Resolution 1244, these destructive and irrational policies regarding Kosovo move the question to the General Assembly, where a great defeat could occur,” he said. Kostunica said that Serbia should have filed charges to the ICJ against all the countries that have recognized Kosovo’s unilateral independence proclamation instead of submitting a resolution to the UN General Assembly. “We must stay with the Security Council, because it is completely safe for us, and we should continue to challenge the existence of the false state of Kosovo through litigation,” Kostunica stated.
