The adoption of the Srebrenica declaration is an event of international importance, confirming Serbia’s significance in the region. This is according to Srebrenica Municipal President Osman Sujic, who reacted today to Tuesday's decision made by a slim majority in the Serbian parliament. Reactions to adoption of declaration “In any case it will bring, in my opinion, a stabilization of a wider region because Serbia is one of the dominant political factors in the region,” he stated. The Citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as the entire Western Balkans, must create conditions to solve disagreements and connect their economies, which will afterward result in larger foreign and domestic investments and ensure better prosperity of all citizens, the Srebrenica mayor stressed. In Serbia, Sandzak Democratic Party (SDP) MP Meho Omerovic stated that the adoption of the declaration condemning the crime in Srebrenica was not only a beginning of a reconciliation process but also facing up to what had happened in the territory of former Yugoslavia. The declaration text unambiguously shows that Serbia respects ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), condemns the crime in Srebrenica and that it will do everything to bring perpetrators to justice if they are in Serbian territory, Omerovic said. He stated that the day-long debate had showed deep differences among MPs and that it was "most tragic that the citizens were able to see that some political parties had not moved past the 1990s". “What we’ve heard from certain opposition parties causes nausea and shows that the Karlovac-Karlobag-Ogulin-Virovitica still hasn’t been erased with some individuals,” the SDP MP pointed out, in reference to a 1990s slogan used by Vojislav Seselj's Radicals (SRS).
