President Boris Tadic said that Serbia will make a decision by the end of the year of whether it will apply for European Union candidate status. He said that as far as the unfreezing of the Interim Trade Agreement with the EU is concerned, nothing will be known until Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz’s gives his report on Serbia’s cooperation with the tribunal. Decision on EU candidacy by year’s end “We all hope – the citizens and myself as the president – that the unfreezing of the Interim Trade Agreement will occur, which would be the second bit of good news after receiving complete visa liberalization,” Tadic told BBC Radio. However, despite all the rumors and reports that Brammertz’s evaluation is very positive, Tadic said that Serbia will wait “a couple more days before getting too excited", adding that a positive report would increase the chances greatly for the trade deal – a part of the suspended SAA – to be applied by the EU as well. Serbia has been unilaterally implementing the trade agreement since the start of the year. Tadic also commented that the European integration process should be taken step by step, adding that these steps could be made in the next 15 to 20 days or in the coming weeks.
