Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says that Serbia will soon see how successful its attempts were at deterring countries from recognizing Kosovo. He told daily Danas that it would be seen in the next couple of weeks whether Serbia’s delegation at the UN General Assembly had been able to convince about 30 countries under pressure to recognize Kosovo independence not to do so. “30 countries under pressure to recognize” “Great pressure is being put on over 30 countries. Meanwhile, Serbia sent a clear message to the U.S. on its road to fully-fledged European Union membership, Jeremic said. “After many talks in New York, I hope that there will be an agreement reached with the EU to adopt a declaration at the ministerial meeting in October that our unilateral implementation of the SAA should be recognized in the process of acquiring candidate status,” the minister said. An important issue at the meetings in New York was the economy, the actual results of which would be seen with the arrival in Serbia of some of America’s largest printing companies, Jeremic said. Asked whether anyone in New York had commented on the attacks on foreign nationals in Belgrade recently, he said that “no one mentioned it.” “No one mentioned this at any of the meetings. I must tell you that I am very glad about that, because these attacks cannot be tolerated under any circumstances and there is no excuse for them.
