Mandate of public prosecutor to be extended

The mandate of Acting Public Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanović will be extended in July by another year, daily Danas reports unofficially.

According to the daily, no other candidates are currently being considered for the post.

Danas states that Radovanović will remain in the job until new prosecutors are selected in line with the Law on Prosecutors, whose application begins on January 1 next year.

A decision will also then be taken on who is to be the public prosecutor for the next six years.

The selection of new public prosecutors is expected to be complete by the end of this year, which, under the proposal of the State Prosecutors’ Council, would see their number fall from the current 687 to 543.
