Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says that countries in the region have a special responsibility to maintain stability in the Western Balkans. Asked what Belgrade would do if Macedonia or Montenegro recognized Kosovo, Jeremic told the Beta news agency that “every recognition of Kosovo independence violates Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” adding that “there is no country that Belgrade would not react to in a suitable manner.” Jeremic: Regional reaction to Kosovo important “The countries of the region have a special responsibility to maintain peace and stability in the Western Balkans. Because of this, we do not expect them to make any moves that would compromise peace and stability in the region before the vote in the UN General Assembly.” Jeremic stressed. Asked what specific action could be expected from Belgrade, he said that Serbia would react “in accordance with the action plan that envisages a series of measures.” “I would not want this to sound like a threat. We are not threatening anyone, we are just saying that we want to be partners with our neighbors in maintaining peace and stability in the region, but no unilateral act of violating our sovereignty and territorial integrity can be tolerated,” Jeremic said.
