The future of 340 companies planned for privatization will be known by July 1, Serbian Minister of Economy Zeljko Sertic ha said. .

Solution for 340 companies by July 1 - minister

Sertic said that the privatization process is burdened by legal issues, primarily ongoing trials and restitution.

The aggravating factor are the huge debts of these companies, Sertic said, adding that for instance, the debt of 50 companies included in the Privatization Agency's portfolio exceeds EUR 4 billion, reads a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy.

So far, the calls have been issued for privatization of 12 companies, and by the end of May this will be done for 15 more companies, reads the statement.

The main topics of the talks between Sertic and the IMF mission were privatization, problems of companies undergoing restructuring, and the state of affairs in public enterprises.

The IMF mission will continue the talks on the first review of the three-year stand-by arrangement with Serbia.
