The killer or killers fired about 30 bullets, "most likely using a silencer," at Cvetanovic, a figure that was "known to the police."

"It is true that the murder took place, the investigation is under way and we cannot give any more details," the local police told the daily Vecernje Novosti.

The police said in a statement that a 31-year-old man was killed last night in Stefana Prvovencanog St. in Vranje, while a spokesperson said the police were taking "intensive measures" to solve the case.

Beta is reporting on Wednesday that Cvetanovic was shot about 30 times, and that it is presumed the killing was carried out by professionals who used silencers. The victim was found at around 04:00 hours CET lying in a pool of blood, with an ambulance crew dispatched to the scene pronouncing him dead.

In the wake of the killing, local police blocked all entrances to the town as they searched for the perpetrators. This blockade was lifted in the early hours of the morning.

Jugoslav Cvetanovic was the brother of Sasa Cvetanovic aka Gladijator, who is a suspect in the murder of Nikola Bojovic - the brother of Luka Bojovic, the leader of Belgrade's Zemun Clan criminal gang, who is currently serving time in a Spanish jail.

Nikola Bojovic was killed in 2013 in Belgrade in front of numerous witnesses. The killer shot him ten times, with three bullets to the head, before fleeing the scene.
