Man refuses to pay taxi fare, beats driver to death

The police in Kragujevac, central Serbia, have arrested a man on suspicion that he murdered a taxi driver in this town on Wednesday.

The suspect, 34-year-old N.D., is currently held in police custody that can last up to 48-hours.

The police said that N.D. is suspected of refusing to pay for his tax fare, and then striking the driver's head and body several times with his fists when the victim attempted to prevent him from leaving.

N.D. then left the scene, the police believe.

The taxi driver's body was found in his vehicle. The Higher Public Prosecution has ordered an autopsy.

It has been announced that the suspect will be charged within the legal deadline and brought to the Higher Public Prosecution in Kragujevac.
