Police look into attack on Anti-Corrpution Council member

Speaking on Monday, Stefanovic said the investigation is being carried out in spite of that.

"Regardless of the attitude toward the police of any individual and their desire to cooperate with state institutions, the job of the police is to provide maximum protection to all citizens of Serbia and to investigate every case," Stefanovic said in a written statement.

He stressed that, since he took office, "a large number of cases that previously lacked the political will" had been solved - and that numerous cases that alarmed the public "have been completed in record time."

"I regret that individuals use every opportunity to speak bad words about the police and the professionals who risk their lives so that citizens can live safely," said Stefanovic.

The minister "called on all citizens to respect the law and to allow state authorities to do their job and not interfere in ongoing investigations."
