Policeman arrested for robbing Syrian migrants

A member of the police in Belgrade has been placed under arrest on suspicion that he committed a crime against migrants from Syria.

The Interior Ministry (MUP) said they were looking for another suspect, also employed by the police.

The officer under arrest, 24-year-old M.K. is suspected of approaching two migrants on August 18 and taking from them a total of EUR 2,050.

"He approached the damaged parties and, while showing his official ID and a pistol he wore under his jacket, he demanded that they remove all items from their pockets, and then took EUR 1,400 from the first damaged party and EUR 650 from the other, as well as their personal documents," a MUP statement said.

It added that the police are working to identify the second suspect, and that M.K. will be taken before the appropriate public prosecution office.
