When he told them it was "20 past eight," they asked if he "knew of any faggots." When he responded negatively, they attacked him, shouting, "You're a faggot," and continued to hit and kick him until they inflicted serious injuries. The victim previously told the website 021, and the daily Blic that he "considered defending himself, but concluded that those were children, and tried to escape instead." However, he said his attackers caught up with him, brought him down from his bicycle, and continued to assault him. A spokesperson for the Clinical Center of Vojvodina confirmed that Janes had received medical help at the Otorhinolaryngology Ward, and that he was later released from hospital. Janes also said that the police contacted him the same evening asking him to identify two suspects, but explained that both boys were "considerably older" than those who attacked him.
