Police have arrested employee of the Leskovac branch of the Pension and Disability Insurance (PIO) Fund Petar Simonovic (60) for accepting bribes. Police Administration Chief Dejan Radenkovic has stated that “this was a well-organized and planned operation”. PIO Fund employee arrested According to him, Simonovic was arrested “in continuation of combat against corruption”. The suspect was arrested after accepting EUR 4,000 from a man in exchange for approving him disability pension. At the time of the arrest police also found EUR 3,000 which he had earlier accepted from another man to whom he had promised disability pension. Aside from the money, police also found several copies of IDs and medical documentation from the PIO Fund. Radenkovic stressed that police would thoroughly investigate the work of the Leskovac branch of the PIO Fund and called upon the citizens to report any form of corruption. Simonovic, who was taken to the investigative judge of the Higher Court in Leskovac, was an expert consultant in the disability commission. (Tanjug, file)
