It is suspected that the mother, Bogunović, was the brains behind the operation.

President of the Society for the fight against fraud, Saša Pribićević, told daily Blic that the prosecution can press charges for fraud, misuse of position, and since the sum is greater than RSD 1.5mn, the two of them could get sentences of 12 years in prison.

He said that according to his sources, police have gathered strong evidence in the case, and that the process could last a lot shorter than trials usually take in Serbia, since it is such an extraordinary case.

Bogunović is accused for several other scams, sources said, adding that she is known for such scams and has recently been prohibited from entering America, Austria, Germany and Sweden.

Bogunović was deported and banned for life from entering the U.S. when she was caught organizing the sale of pieces of art while working as a flight attendant on flights across the Atlantic Ocean.

After returning to Serbia, she presented herself as Sandrina Wagner, even though she never married the famous U.S. art collector whose name she took. He supported her and her daughter financially until he died under still uncovered and strange circumstances.

Bogunović graduated from Columbia University and worked as a journalist both in Serbia and the U.S. She was also an actress and worked in Los Angeles as an art gallery owner.

She left Serbia for America with hockey player Nikola Rebrača, Katarina’s father.
