Serbian police (MUP) hve announced that a man who held a family at gunpoint in their home was killed by policemen. The man, identified as Slava Mitic, 43, this morning burst into the house owned by Slavisa Joksimovic in the village of Grabovica, near Despotovac. Special police kill man holding family hostage He asked Joksimovic "to bring his daughter Sanela". An argument ensued during which Mitic threatened to execute the whole family. After leaving the house, Joksimovic called the local police. But soon after, Mitic returned, this time armed with a pistol, and held Slavisa, his wife Suzana, and younger daughter S., 16, at gunpoint, threatening to kill them. Local police called in a MUP negotiating team, which after several hours of fruitless attempts to persuade Mitic to free his hostages, turned to the Counter-Terrorist Unit (PTJ). A MUP statement said that since even after repeated warnings, Mitic would not desist with his threat to liquidate the family, holding the pistol pointed at Joksimovic's head the whole time, PTJ officers were forced to shoot and kill him. Last year, a criminal complaint was filed against Mitic for theft, violent behavior and endangering the safety of others. He harassed 19-year-old Sanela Joksimovic for months, forcing her to date him, the police said in the statement.
