Former Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica denies having any knowledge of the whereabouts of Radovan Karadzic months before his arrest. “I had no information on the location of anyone who stands accused by the Hague court. On the contrary, all the competent bodies, including the security services (BIA), did that job in accordance with the law,” Kostunica told a press conference. Kostunica: No knowledge of Karadzic whereabouts He added that the best example of cooperation was the number of indictees sent to the Hague Tribunal in the last few years, and the large amount of documentation given to the court. The Social-Democratic Union has asked the prosecution to launch proceedings against those who had knowledge of Karadzic’s whereabouts and who had “done nothing to arrest him.” The party cited information “which is appearing in the media with ever increasing frequency” that BIA and its then director knew where Karadzic had been hiding since November of last year. “The excuse that they were waiting for the right moment to arrest him are far-fetched, and are an attempt to dodge responsibility for the very serious crime of harbouring criminals wanted by the law,” the party stated. The former Bosnian Serb leader was arrested on July 21, and extradited to the Hague Tribunal on July 30. He is accused of genocide, liquidation, murder, punishment, deportation, inhumane acts and other crimes committed against Muslims, Croats and other non-Serbs in Bosnia during the war in the former Yugoslav republic.
