The U.S. will continue to pressure Serbia into extraditing the two remaining Hague fugitives as soon as possible. The U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Clint Williamson said that the U.S would continue to insist on the arrests of Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic. “U.S. to maintain pressure over Mladic” “It’s a great success that Karadzic has been arrested, but the story will not end while the remaining two are still at large,” Williamson told Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz. He said that all the credit for Karadzic’s arrest should go to the Serbian authorities, who had made a political decision and proceeded accordingly, using the country’s institutions and potential. Williamson said that the U.S. wanted Serbia to fulfill its obligations and take steps to arrest Mladic and Hadzic. He added that the U.S. would cooperate with the Serbian government, but that it would have no qualms about applying more pressure to make it happen. “We’ll cooperate with our allies, and with the Serbian government as well… It is very important to us to see Mladic and Karadzic arrested, and we’ll continue to put pressure on to ensure that happens,” the ambassador said. He stressed that Serbia was obliged to arrest every fugitive hiding “on its territory and to cooperate further with the Hague Tribunal” to ensure that all documents and witnesses in the Karadzic trial were made available to the Tribunal. Williamson said that the evidence against Karadzic was well substantiated, and that the prosecution had a clear case against him. “He has the right to a fair trial, and it is up to the court to look into all the evidence and determine the sentence,” he said. Williamson did not want to make any comment regarding rewards for information leading to the arrest of Hague fugitives. “I’ll say that no money was spent for Karadzic’s arrest. I can’t go into the details. There is still a fund from which a reward of up to USD 5mn can be drawn for information leading to the arrest of Mladic or Hadzic. I would like to call on anyone who has that information to come forward,” the ambassador said.
