Serbia has been warned of “serious consequences” if Miladin Kovacevic is not extradited to the U.S, a daily writes. After the last interventions on the highest level, the U.S. lawmakers areputting together an initiative for freezing the planed USD 53mn of aid to Serbia for “Belgrade’s failure to act” on the demand to extradite Kovacevic to stand trial in America on charges of assaulting a fellow student at the New York university which he attends, a report in Vecernje Novosti newspaper claims. Fugitive student “must be extradited to U.S.” Foreign Affairs Minister Vuk Jeremic talked with U.S. senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton via telephone and was warned of “serious consequences,” if Kovacevic is not handed over to the American authorities within the coming days and does not show up in court on August 3. “I told Jeremic that, taking into consideration the circumstances, there is no possibility of having Kovacevic’s trial in Serbia. That should not even be considered,” Schumer told the Daily Post. Kovacevic, a student at Binghamton University in New York state, is suspected of assaulting Bryan Steinhauer at a local bar. After posting bail, Kovacevic illegally fled the U.S. and is currently in Serbia.

Foreign Affairs Minister Vuk Jeremić talked with U.S. senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton via telephone and was warned of “serious consequences,” if Kovačević is not handed over to the American authorities within the coming days and does not show up in court on August 3.

“I told Jeremić that, taking into consideration the circumstances, there is no possibility of having Kovačević’s trial in Serbia. That should not even be considered,” Schumer told the Daily Post.

Kovačević, a student at Binghamton University in New York state, is suspected of assaulting Bryan Steinhauer at a local bar.

After posting bail, Kovačević illegally fled the U.S. and is currently in Serbia.
