Kosovo police deny Serb man was beaten in custody Vlasaj accused members of "a special police unit" of brutally beating him during questioning at the Pristina courthouse. "I was beaten while I was in the restroom, they told me they were doing it so I would never have children. They handcuffed me, spread my legs and hit me mercilessly. There were two of them, they made me wash my face to freshen up and threatened me not to tell anyone they had beaten me," said Vlasaj. In its statement, the Kosovo police also noted that following Vlasaj's claim, they "contacted judiciary bodies asking for information about the conduct of the police officers at the courthouse". "Reports, records and statements signed by the detainees say they were treated in an appropriate and professional manner by the police," reads the statement. Others from the group of ten Serbs detained after Christmas Day liturgy in the enclave of Gracanica accused the Kosovo police of abuse and torture. The men were held for a day and questioned for 16 hours, to be charged with minor offenses and released. On Thursday, it was announced in Pristina that the KPS had asked the Kosovo police inspectorate to launch "an independent investigation" into the allegations of physical abuse of persons in police detention. According to reports, the reason for this is that the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, had received a complaint filed by the Serbs arrested in Gracanica on Monday. B92 Tanjug
