Air Serbia establishes direct Belgrade-NYC flights

Air Serbia will be flying to New York five times a week.

The Airbus A330 airliner, named "Nikola Tesla", was flown by Air Serbia Executive Flight Operations Director, Captain Davor Miseljic.

For the time being, Air Serbia is the only airline in the region to operate flights to New York.

Introducing direct flights to New York demonstrates Serbia's commitment to opening up to the world, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said at a ceremony.

U.S. Ambassador Kyle Scott congratulated Serbia on the strategic decision to introduce the flights, expressing confidence that it is good for Serbia and the US, bilateral relations and tourism.

"This is a small step for a Serb, but a giant step for Serbia," said Air Serbia CEO Dane Kondic.
