Djukanovic: We won't give our future to Moscow

This was his response to journalists' question about "economic relations and Russia's influence on Montenegro," a country that recently signed a protocol on membership in NATO, which Russia openly opposed.

Djukanovic also said that the processes of integration into the EU and NATO are "inseparable."

"Montenegro will continue the process of reforms in order to progress towards a European future. Montenegro is the only country where there was no war after the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, and we want our future to also be like that," he said, according to Albanian ATA agency.

Montenegro aspires toward NATO and has a clear vision of its contribution to stability and security, Djukanovic said, adding:

"Membership in NATO is of great importance and I can reliably confirm that Montenegro is on the path of Euro-Atlantic structures and then towards the European Union."

Djukanovic also revealed that he considers NATO to be "guarantee of stability in the Balkans and in the countries in the region."

As for relations with neighboring Albania, Djukanovic said the two countries have "very good cooperation".

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said earlier that the Balkans' full integration into NATO "will be a strategic and vital investment."

"It would at the same time be the most obvious answer to both the geopolitical ambitions of other actors in the region, and to the risks and the continuing threats coming from the Middle East and North Africa," said Rama.

According to Rama, Albania's membership in NATO "laid the foundations for the future of his country." Rama also said that Albania "supports the membership of Montenegro and Macedonia in the Alliance."

Tirana was hosting the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO, with messages urging more defense spending, and standing up to Russia, sent from the gathering.
